About this deal

Any opinions on whether the second hand box will of will not work (Freeview Channels via her aerial and he usual Catchups via the ethernet) with her set-up? I know because I also use a BT YouView (Humax rebadged) box , but no longer have BT broadband so it just operates now as a normal YouView box (I didn't lose any recordings, just the BT channels when I switched providers), anyway I had exactly the same update as the OP this week even though it has no links with BT anymore, and agree it is not as easy to navigate around the menus even if it does look fantastic! This is YouView coming of age and with the BT channels thrown into the mix it's the strongest YouView package out there right now. Other reviewers are right with the box being a little sluggish when moving through the menus or unresponsive occasionally, but I can live with that. That’s only a watt or so less than the usual power consumption when the box is on, but overall, it’s roughly half the draw of the older YouView box.

YouView offers that too, of course, but we really like the integration of catch-up services in YouView's EPG. Also I saw solutions with opening the disk to check if it’s not stuck but not sure if it’s gonna work with tv box as a long term solution, or whether it’s only to recover the data before disk fails again.Still having the original drive, that was still working (but being unreliable), I was able to clone it to the refurb drive. Another easy check would be to measure the output voltage of the power supply to make sure that hasn’t failed. Are you able to temporarily move the YouView box nearer to your router so you can complete the setup with it plugged directly into the router with an Ethernet cable?

I have repaired several of these boxes last one was a humax 9300t with a failed drive fitted a 128 gb ssd drive taken from an alienware laptop wiped partitions fitted into cradle formatted and away it went. This is the first box I've had since my original Humax 9200T which records everything asked of it without complaint. There's also the smartphone app (we've been using the Android version) and this will allow you to connect/pair your smartphone and then browse the EPG and schedule recordings. That's something we can live with as we're used to from using catch-up services on PC and in mobile apps. Each of the different platforms is developed by the parent channel, so there's a different look and feel to each.

Unless you’re right next to the box, this is inaudible, so it’s ideal for bedrooms as well as the living room or kitchen. Looking at your photos of inside the box there is a large plate on the underside – is that easy to remove? APV used to work albeit very sluggishly compared to Netflix, having seen the Software update link I note that the new version was rolled out from 10 Oct, shortly before my problem started. When not exploring consumer tech, Chris can be found riding his bike - and gathering all the data for later examination. Recordings made in high-def are likely to be encrypted, standard definition recordings might be more accessible. The actual BT element only really impacts on the experience when you step into the sections that BT adds to the mix. In the box you get a mains adapter (the power supply is external), an HDMI cable and an extremely long Ethernet cable. Update: DigiRepairs were able to fix which has extended the life of our box and I feel confident I could replace the hard drive if that goes too thanks to your instructions.

If anyone else has tried and had some success I would be very grateful if you can let me know how you did it. This is obvious if the old hard disk is broken, but if you are just upgrading your box with a larger hard drive the new drive will become ‘married’ to the box.I think you could a) clone the disk first, then b) extend the final partition to take up any extra space on your new drive, I’m thinking of those with 500Gb drives wanting to go to 1TB.
