Joe is the type of character who you want to root for as his life is currently a big mess but you also get annoyed with him and some of the decisions he makes. Lies is fast-paced and filled with tension from start to finish, with twists and turns to keep you turning the pages. lies, and he goes down the rabbit hole trying to uncover just what - if anything - in his life is as he believed it to be. Right off the bat, readers might have the sneaking suspicion that LIES won’t be the most groundbreaking book—and they will find themselves justified in thinking so.If you’re looking for a fun, fast read to end your summer with, this might be the right one for you! e. I enjoyed the adorable child in this book who had a ‘part’ in LIFE WAS NEVER THE SAME AGAIN for his family when one night the child spotted “mummy’s car”.

To make matters worse for poor old Joe, he quickly finds that not only has he not seen Ben since their encounter in the parking garage, neither has anyone else. But when he unexpectedly sees his wife's car ahead of them, he decides to follow her - and ends up witnessing her secret rendezvous with another man. If you’re a reader who considers that fair play important, you’ll want to avoid LIES—you will very likely be frustrated by its bizarre and melodramatic finale. When I see such a fervent statement in which a respected individual says, with no equivocation, that I absolutely won’t figure something out, I tend to take it as a bit of a personal challenge. Joe quickly realizes that everything he has believed about his wife and their relationship has been a lie. Those guys who, on the exterior, are wholly unaffectionate but, on the inside, are a bubbling spring of complex emotions. Logan does a great job dropping in enough red herrings to keep you on your toes and of course pointing your fingers in all directions!

Later Beth confronts Mel of the pictures, Joe’s happy marriage and comfortable life as he sees it is no more. The premise had potential, as there aren’t too many books out there nowadays that incorporate modern technology (in the form of smartphones, tablets, laptops) and social media (i. Joe's life devolves from respected teacher, loving husband and father, to murder suspect on the run. Though some issues with characters contained in the novel did hinder my enjoyment — slightly — readers looking for a clean and tidy thriller will likely find that this debut fits the bill.Brian McAuley’s CURSE OF THE REAPER is a thriller tailor-made for, as his dedication so aptly puts it, the “Halloween people. Joe's life crumbled around him and proving his innocence seemed impossible unless he could prove Ben was alive.
