Madcap additionally returned to Deadpool's life, though Wade was unaware his experience inside his mind left Madcap emotionally damaged and vengeful. Throughout October 2020, Reynolds and Marvel Studios met with potential writers for the next Deadpool film, with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin hired to write the screenplay that November. Reynolds and Marvel Studios felt the writers' pitch was in-line with their own intentions for the film, which would remain R-rated. Reynolds and Marvel Studios were open to Leitch returning for the film, but he was not expected to due to other commitments throughout 2021 and was not involved in hiring the writers.
