About this deal

Paul Sorvino played Paul Cicero in Goodfellas. His real name was Paul Vario, and he was born in New York City. Vario was a captain in the Lucchese family. At one point he was underboss. When he was 11, in 1925, Vario got a seven month juvenile detention term for truancy. Goodfellas is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, particularly in the gangster genre. In 2000, it was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress. [5] [6] Its content and style have been emulated in numerous other pieces of media. [7] Plot [ edit ] According to Henry Hill, in his memoir Gangsters and Goodfellas, Karen was sleeping with Paul Vario while Hill was in jail. Tommy wanted to get in on the action, but Karen turned him down, and DeSimone tried to rape her.

Pileggi, Nicholas (1985). Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family (Firsted.). Simon & Schuster. ISBN 978-0-671-72322-4. a b Gilchrist, Todd (February 10, 2010). "Making The (Up) Grade: Goodfellas". Moviefone. Archived from the original on August 27, 2014 . Retrieved August 27, 2014.By all accounts, Lucchese crime family associate Thomas DeSimone, portrayed by Joe Pesci as Tommy DeVito in the film, was every bit as ruthless, explosively-tempered, and murderous as his onscreen counterpart. Still, there were some major differences between the real-life DeSimone and Pesci’s character. First, DeSimone—who stood 6-feet 2-inches tall and weighed 225 pounds—hardly would have suffered from the Napoleonic complex implied by the 5-foot 4-inch Pesci's performance. Also, Pesci was in his late forties when he took on the role, while DeSimone met his violent end when he was just 28 years old. 10. Some of the real criminals portrayed in Goodfellas were actually toned down for the film.

The Godfather star went on to note that The Family earned praise from Scorsese, teasing, "Marty told me he liked the movie, he told me he liked it a lot. I don't know if he saw it with an audience or not but I know him well enough to know he was telling me the truth." The book “Wiseguy” is about Henry Hill a member of the Lucchese crime family. The book itself tells a different perspective of the “Mob”. Its seen through the eyes of Nicholas Pileggi the author but told to by Hill himself . It displays an interesting outlook,Mob movies books characters have fascinated the world for so long and its the belief that their is another world more exhilarating and exciting fast paced and the common person is just looking to escape the real world into a book or another life.

Paul Sorvino (Paulie Cicero)

And when you finally get to the end, and see how Hill escapes a bullet in the head (that was issued to everyone else who knew of the Lufthansa heist) to become a Federal employee, you wonder... is this all okay and correct that this should happen? People are killed en route to this, millions of dollars of property and cash are redistributed among wiseguys, and yet the prime mover becomes another man in lieu of the one he never was. I am not sure.

Ed Mcdonald is the former prosecutor who offers Henry and his family the chance to enter the witness protection problem, and he actually plays himself in the movie. At first, real New York supercop Bo Dietl auditioned for the role of Mcdonald, but he was ultimately cast as the cop who busts Henry in his driveway. Brian Dennehy very nearly played the part, but when the production sent someone over to gather photos of Mcdonald and his diplomas, he asked the staffer who was playing him, and when the staffer told him the role hadn't been filled yet, he jokingly suggested he'd do it himself. Scorsese was intrigued by idea of making a cinéma vérité movie, so he wound up, in fact, casting Mcdonald. Had Mcdonald still been working for the government, he wouldn't have even been able to take the part. Bibbiani, William (September 11, 2013). "Exclusive Interview: Luc Besson on The Family".
