About this deal

Like the Titanic, I can see this set doing really well with fans, and those wanting a LEGO experience like no other that befits the LEGO Icons branding. On the sides of the Eiffel Tower, 72names of French scientists, engineers, and mathematicians are engraved in recognition of their contributions, and they’re represented here by the dark grey “gold bar element”, with 18 on each side! The interior gets some set dressing with a wooden desk, chair, and table. The desk has a small lamp and a 1×2 tile with a printed envelope pattern. In a bit of meta reclusiveness, there’s also a small model of the Eiffel Tower itself perched on a small display table. At long last we’ve reached the top of the tower. A small ring of windows is fleshed out with transparent 1×1 and 1×2 plate.

It is obvious and needs saying all the same –building LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower will demand more of you as a LEGO fan than almost any set that has come before it, and you would be wise to pace yourself and draw out the experience in response. And of course, for such a set to require its own method of approach and consideration in construction, it’s rather inevitable that it will demand just as much thought for where to put it once complete… Real Value [4]– It’s expensive but good value, especially if you factor in the Eiffel Apartment GWP As mentioned above, the Eiffel Tower has undergone changes during the last 133 years. These include several paint schemes, varying between shades of brown and bronze. Today, the tower is painted in three shades, none of which are grey. Dark tan would be the most accurate colour available to LEGO, but dark bluish grey looks bolder on display and contrasts nicely against the base. This more particular approach allows for authenticity to be breathed into the model, in a way that is informative to how the real Eiffel Tower was built over that two-year period between 1887 and 1889, and truly celebratory of both its unique architecture and its iconic artistry – it’s a model to be wholly savoured in construction, step by step. This is perhaps best exemplified in the number of different, interesting geometric patterns that you’ll put together for different sections of the tower. This is a massive, expensive, and highly anticipated set which deserves serious consideration. To conclude this review, let’s consider the aesthetic aspects of the completed build, value compared to similar sets, and other considerations like learning moments and the practicality of displaying a large (and potentially fragile) set. AestheticsApproaching this review, I expected 10307 Eiffel Tower to impress, although doubted whether its unprecedented size was truly necessary. Fortunately, I was wrong. The designer has definitely taken advantage of the scale to include extensive detail, but more remarkable is this model's outstanding display value, through its combination of size and intricacy. At the center of the level, a hole for a Technic beam is exposed, another concession to the need for stability as things go vertical. And because it’s so large, it’s also really satisfying seeing this incredible structure take shape in front of your very eyes. To be frank, this model looks beautiful from across the room — assuming that you have a large enough room to allow you to see it from a distance! I am extremely pleased with the overall shape of the model, which captures the elegant form of the real building very well. If this were a MOC on display at a LEGO convention, it would draw large crowds due to the large size and high degree of craftsmanship. The crossbars are getting a lot smaller as we reach the top. The same general set of parts is still used, though. This does unify the look, as a change in technique would have really stood out.

Bar Holder with Hole and Bar Handle (6397633 | 23443) is new, and comes in strong with a whopping 660 parts!medium unmarked bag: containing 8x – 8×8 plates with grille (part 4151) in 199 Dark Stone Grey Dark Bluish Gray.

Innovation [5]– Incredible LEGO engineering at work here, without the need for new or fancy elements. Just good ole math and design ingenuity. The angled supports above the curve are superficial in both the LEGO model and in the real building. It contains an eye-watering 10,001 pieces and is marked for ages 18+ for good reason – even if a much younger builder has the skills to build it, do they have the patience? It’s also important to note that it is really tall (149 cm / 59”) — which could be a challenge for smaller builders of any age. It also comes with further considerations and challenges that few other LEGO sets create in quite the same way. Where a LEGO Star Wars UCS set may need a large shelf or a display case to sit it on display, 10307 Eiffel Tower will need an entire section of a room and, as we have written above, ideally one away from the rest of your LEGO, if you want to really enjoy it. Super expensive, supermassive, one-of-a-kind –if you are considering purchasing this set then it delivers on all fronts, just be aware it’ll likely take up further expense and real estate as you consider where to put it. Maybe time for that extension after all. — LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower pictures — I’ll also be the first to tell you that photos do not do this set justice at all, and you’ll really want to see it in person to fully appreciate the grand scale of this set. When I compare it specifically to the Colosseum — the most recent architectually focused set in the Icons lineup (formerly Creator Expert) — The Eiffel Tower wins hands down. While I enjoyed building the Colosseum, and in particular learning more about the building while assembling the model, it is not a very captivating display piece. The circular shape does not catch your eye, and I don’t find myself wandering over to look into the centre of the arena very often. To be fair, both of these sets teach you about the LEGO model and real building as you go.) Attaching these central sections of the tower was probably my favourite part of the construction process, as each pillar leans inwards and fits securely around a Technic core. Once again, the slight flexibility of the clips is useful here, as both the lower legs and these intermediate sections require minor adjustments when fastened to their respective Technic frames. While the platform is mainly constructed using fairly traditional techniques, the frame underneath is actually upside down. This enables a relatively simple connection between the legs and the first level, incorporating more clips. These clips allow the joints to flex slightly, which strengthens the design because the connection points are unlikely to come apart. LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower launches in LEGO stores and at LEGO.com on November 25, and can be expected to appear at select retailers from that date onwards, perhaps in an exclusive capacity. — LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower build — As seen on the box, Gustave fits well into his apartment. There’s not a lot of room for him to move around, but this is clearly meant to be a display piece and not a playset.
