ACTIK® with a rechargeable battery! The ideal rechargeable headlamp to extend your dynamic outdoor activities. Casting 600 lumens, ACTIK® CORE provides powerful and comfortable lighting to go with you when you're running, trekking, or mountaineering. Its phosphorescent reflector makes it easy to find in the dark and red lighting keeps you from blinding those around you when you’re with a group. ACTIK® CORE comes with the CORE rechargeable battery and also works with three standard batteries, thanks to its HYBRID CONCEPT design. The average headlamp features a range of lighting modes, including spot, flood, colored, and strobe lights. The default setting for most lamps is their powerful LED spot beam, which focuses the light at a distance rather than casting it wide around you (the max distance these can reach is listed in the "max beam" section of our comparison table). While not necessary in all circumstances, a long-distance beam can be helpful for looking far down a trail, trying to spot an anchor while rappelling, or even for extreme uses like caving. A proximity beam illuminates the area right in front of you The BioLite HeadLamp 330 is the most comfortable headlamp we've tested. It has a 'no-bounce' design to help runners, with a reflective strip on the rear for added safety. What is the brightest headlamp? The Petzl Actik Core 450 is a bright, well-built and versatile headlamp that comes from a highly reputable brand. They offer a two-year (or 300 charges) battery warranty and a five-year lamp warranty on this product, so you can be sure you're making a safe investment. In our Petzl Actik Core 450 review we were so impressed by this headlamp that we awarded it four and a half stars, with only half a star missing for the Micro-USB charge port; we'd prefer USB-C. WARNING: This lamp is not certified for road use: when used in areas subject to traffic regulations, Petzl lights are no substitute for required standardized lights.

BioLite Headlamp 425: A comfortable no-bounce headlamp that's incredibly lightweight. The rear red beam is an unusual feature, handy for group situations. This headlamp also comes with a host of other useful features. It's rated at IP67, meaning that it is fully waterproof and dustproof for up to a meter (which we successfully put to the test in our Knog Bilby 400 headlamp review). What makes it the most customizable headlamp on our list is its ModeMaker app for PC or Mac. Simply plug the headlamp into a USB port and you can set up 14 different saved modes for your headlamp to suit your preferences. In keeping with its flashlight design, the Olight Perun 2 is the brightest light on our list at an impressive 2500 lumens. However, this is extremely bright and may be overkill for your purposes. Included is a white storage bag, which doubles as a light diffuser making for a nice little lamp around camp. Although the Knog Bilby has extensive features, this does mean that it's not as intuitive as some headlamps, so it's well worth reading through the instruction manual before you take it out anywhere.Nitecore NU31: A durable headlamp that's built to last in all environments and weather. There's a slight green tint in the white light, but this wouldn't bother most users. This headlamp will suit most general use requirements, not just sky watchers. It uses a single button operation that is obvious to the touch and responsive, so it can easily be operated when wearing gloves on those cold nights. The battery compartment is easy to open too, either to change the batteries or to plug it into a power bank using a micro-USB charger. Conclusion: The new Actik Core is a winner, as it is exceptionally bright, light, comfortable, easy to charge, has good battery life and will not break the bank.

WARNING: This lamp is not certified for road use: when used in an area governed by traffic regulations, Petzl lights are not a substitute for required standardized lights. HYBRID CONCEPT design: ACTIK® CORE comes with the CORE rechargeable battery and also works with three AAA/LR03 batteries (not included); it automatically detects the energy source and adjusts lighting performance Lighting performance with 3 AAA / LR6 batteries Lighting performance as defined by the ANSI/PLATO FL 1 protocol This powerful headtorch is the result of endless testing and research from Petzl. At full power the Actik will pump out 350 lumens and will run for two hours before it requires a charge. If battery life is more of a priority, the Actik can run for a massive 160 hours on Petzl's Max Autonomy mode. The new Actik Core is amazingly bright for its size and even though it has gained 7 grams over the previous model (at least by my scale), it is still very light and compact.

Lighting performance

The dual mode projects a broad, bright and distant beam, again, very impressive for a smaller lamp. Reduced environmental impact: the entire lifespan of a CORE rechargeable battery is equivalent to that of 900 standard batteries The headtorch comes with Petzel’s rechargeable Core battery which charges with a micro-USB, so you can charge the torch almost anywhere. This is the headtorch I take away if I'm on a multi-day hike as being able to charge on the go gives me the confidence, that I'm not suddenly running out of charge and potentially finding myself in a dangerous situation. The headtorch also can be powered with three AAA batteries Like the previous version, the Actik Core features dual beam in the medium and highest settings, combining a proximate and spot beam for a nice and complete range of light. The single button operation is simple and intuitive, with the button being large and positive enough in response that I never make a mistake and is easy to operate with gloves on. We have spent the past couple of weeks using the Actik Core headlamp for various activities, including late-night dog walking, sky watching, festival camping and using during wildlife rehabilitation activities. Here's what we think. Petzl ACTIK CORE 450: Design

Petzl Actik Core 450: This is a reliable and durable headlamp with a choice of power options. If you don't mind using a Micro-USB cable to charge, there's nothing else to fault. If you happen to come across it, this is actually the exact same lamp as the TACTIKKA Headlamp, but that model is usually found in more specialized fishing/hunting/military stores. There is also a more recent model, the Actik Core 600, which boasts 600 lumens, has a Phosphorescent reflector to help you find it in the dark and a pouch that you can use to make a lantern (for when you're in your tent). Lighting performance with rechargeable CORE rechargeable battery Lighting performance as defined by the ANSI/PLATO FL 1 protocolThe headband is very stretchy and can be worn for prolonged periods of time without it causing any irritation.
