About this deal

jane isn't even her real name, she's changed it after fleeing an incident in her last foster home; embarking on the path towards carving out a rage-to-riches story on the strength of her own grit, determination, and calculated manipulations, with some light kleptomania along the way. "jane" has a strong personality and a potty mouth, but she's learned how to survive by playing the game, coveting so badly what the rich take for granted. It’s now four months after the accident. Bea senses an opportunity to escape, but it requires seducing Eddie. When he comes in, she comes onto him. He at first rebuffs her, but soon gives in. That night at the lake house, Jane hears a strange noise. She goes to inspect and finds Eddie in the living room, inspecting the floor. He claims he is looking for a key he dropped, but Jane doesn’t believe him. Later, Eddie asks Jane about taking money out of the account (to pay off Eddie). She lies about it (not wanting him to find out more about her past), saying it was for wedding stuff. They eventually leave early. Afterwards, Jane arranges to have lunch with Tripp to get information out of him. Tripp asks if she wants to know about what was going on between Eddie and Blanche, but when Jane expresses surprise, Tripp dismisses it all as rumors. Tripp talks more about Bea stealing Blanche’s ideas, but Jane doesn’t get much more information from him. As she and Eddie start a relationship, Jane can't help but be curious about his late-wife, Bea, whose presence is still very much felt in his life. This one is a slow burn thriller, with a bit too much focus on the politics at Thornfield Estates. Though there were a handful of memorable twists, most of the story was predictable. In comparison to other reads from the thriller genre, this one didn’t stand out to me.

With an even darker twist, this novel delivers a one-of-a-kind take on a well-known gothic tale. In addition to the suspenseful story line, the distorted love triangle and the impassivity of the Thornfield residents will have readers feeling simultaneously discombobulated and fulfilled." ––Library Journal (starred review) What happens next is nothing short of brilliant, twisted and completely wild. Talk about turning the freaking tables and stunning this reader to no end! For most of the book, I felt like I was reading a romantic comedy as Jane and Eddie got to know each other. It was light and fluffy (though potty-mouthed), without any tension that would indicate something was amiss. There was also a good amount of commentary about the sheer inaneness of suburban life, which added a good dose of humor to the story. Jane Bell is new to Alabama. Living on the outskirts of the posh Thornfield Estates neighborhood, she initially works in a coffee shop, but then takes up dog-walking for the wealthy families within Thornfield. He owns a gorgeous house, he is smart and funny and (most importantly), his wife died in a boating accident, thus allowing Jane to swoop in and snap up that place by his side.A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. She begins to learns the ins-and-outs of their upper-class world, envying their lifestyles and occasionally taking a little bit of it for herself. In 2018, I read" Rebecca"-Daphne du Maurier- for the first time, simultaneously with "The Winters" by Lisa Gabrielle. I think it's entertaining to see how the names from the Classics will be reassigned-the plots freshened for modern times. Thornfield Estates is all about keeping up with your neighbors...literally. When one neighbor gets a dog walker, well they all HAVE to have a dog walker too. Why on earth do all these "ladies of leisure" need a dog walker? But what Jane doesn't know is that Eddie is keeping a secret - a big secret. And when the truth comes out, the consequences are far more deadly than anyone could ever have imagined...

But Mrs. Reed is holding her dog Bear’s leash, making a face at me, this frown of exaggerated sympathy that’s supposed to let me know how bad she feels about sending me out in the rain on this Monday morning.Later that night, the police show up. The woman introduces herself as Detective Laurent. Jane initially assumes that she’s there for her, but it turns out she wants to question Eddie about Bea. Part IV: Bea It's taken me a few days to figure out how to constructively review this book because my initial reaction made me want to toss it in the garbage. But that doesn't help other readers (it would have made me feel a lot better, after having wasted my time with it) but here we go... Mrs. Reed and her husband live alone on Magnolia Court in eight bathrooms and seven bedrooms, a formal living room and a family den, an upstairs lounge and a “gentleman’s study.” Every house in Thornfield Estates is like that from what I can tell. I’ve been in four of them so far because of course once one neighbor has a dog-walker, everyone else needs— wants—one. I work for the Reeds, walking Bear, and now for the McLaren family on Primrose Lane, walking their dalmatian, Mary-Beth. Then there’s the Clarks on Oakwood with their shih tzus, Major and Colonel, and Tripp Ingraham on Maple Way just hired me to walk his late wife’s Labrador, Harper.
