About this deal

This book envelopes around Ally's world who is a daring sailor and loves to take part in some of the world's most famous yacht races. Ally is a brave and independent woman who has made her mark in the world of men. But the amount and level of grief she goes through, made me sympathetic as well as root for her till the very end. Anna and Jens are another two most interesting characters in the book. Anna's dedication towards music and her love for Jens kept me hooked on to the book. The villain(s) were a bit weak for me, especially after Tangle of Spells. I felt that one of them actually had some right to what they wanted to achieve, they just weren't being very nice about it. Injustice can often lead to bitterness and cruelty.

Lucinda lives with her husband and four children on the North Norfolk coast in England and West Cork, Ireland. What kind of challenges did you face in writing the second instalment of a seven-book series? How was it different to writing the first book, The Seven Sisters? I knew that my ‘gift' of beauty had helped to bring about the most painful moment of my life, simply because I was too naive at the time to understand the power it wielded. So now, I hid it away, which meant hiding myself.'

In Norway, she saw the Seven Sister waterfall with Bo, Karine and Pip. Pip also told them about the phenomenon of aurora borealis. And here was I, as usual the odd one out. Since Pa had died, I'd managed to find nothing except a new and more reliable dealer. Even though I was by far the most financially successful sister… what was the point when I hadn't a clue what else I wanted to do?' Lucinda Riley was born in Ireland, and after an early career as an actress in film, theatre and television, wrote her first book aged twenty-four. Her novel Hothouse Flower (also called The Orchid House) was selected by the UK's Richard and Judy Book Club and has been translated into thirty-four languages and sold over eight million copies worldwide. She is a New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author. What was the French Elle doing in Leipzig? Did she meet Bo in Germany or, if he was in Paris before he went to Leipzig, did they meet there?

I have been absolutely spellbound by each of these books and Storm of Sisters was no exception. For me the magic lies in the wonderful characters - teenage Felicity who is in love with love; Betty who always manages to find adventure and Charlie who won’t go anywhere without her rat and Granny. It lies in the incredible settings with their amazing names - ‘Dead Man’s Curve’, ‘Wilderness’, and ‘Elora’s Tears’. It lies in the amazing descriptions of icy scenery. And it lies in the wonder of the story. This has magic; a costume ball; a missing girl; a frozen lake; ghostly goings on… Mr and Mrs Tanit were working for Flora (The Shadow Sister, book 3) at High Weald in 1943. Mrs Tanit spoke with an accent.

The Seven Sisters books in order

When I wrote about the first novel of the cycle, I assumed that each book, in addition to the theme of experiencing loss, finding a family and forgiveness, a love and adventure component, would be a story about one of the modern wonders of the world, and now I understand that I was wrong. Bet on the next round of the game - each novel corresponds to its own kind of art: the first sculpture, the second music. A book in the study by Jens Halvorsen: “Grieg, Solveig of jeg, en biografi av Jens Halvorsen” published in 1907. And yet, his presence in the girls’ family histories is clear from the first book on. It’s also obvious to me that he isn’t dead at all, but very busy solving some sort of problem we don’t know about yet. Said problem must be linked to the absence of the mysterious seventh sister Merope, to the Eszus and very possibly also to the fact his wife (or at least the equivalent of Pleione) seems to be missing. The staff of Atlantis -Claudia, Christian, Georg and Marina- are in it as well, with a possible bigger role for Marina who, according to many readers, is none other than Pa’s long-lost biological daughter. In The Storm Sister is it Ally D'Aplièse turn to find her roots. Her father's death hits her hard, and soon she faces another devastating blow when someone close to her drowns. Ally, who always loved to sail, feel that she can't return to the sea and it is now the clue that her father gave her to come into the picture. The clue takes her to Norway and to the story of Anna Landvik, a talented singer who lived one hundred years ago. If Bo is Pa Salt, this would make him about 17 years of age when he was a second year music student. Does this fit with his timeline? How long had he been in Germany?

The eldest of the adoptive sisters, Maia, with her shiny, brown hair, perfect skin and huge expressive eyes, known as the beauty of the family. Deeply affected by events in her early adulthood, she has withdrawn from the world to protect her damaged heart. But, with her extraordinary grasp of languages, Maia's attachment to home hinders her potential, until she discovers the clue left to her by the sisters' late adoptive father, Pa Salt. Maia's defences must come down if she is to discover her connection to Brazilian beauty Izabela Bonifacio, and finds love in the passionate city of Rio de Janeiro. Shortly before the publication of The Missing Sister , Lucinda announced an eighth and final book in The Seven Sisters series, promising to answer the question at the heart of the story: Who is Pa Salt? Before her death, Lucinda was able to write several important passages and detailed notes on the story. She expressed a clear wish that her eldest son, Harry, should complete the series if the worst were to happen. Ally has also recently embarked on a deeply passionate love affair that will change her destiny forever. But with her life now turned upside down, Ally decides to leave the open seas and follow the trail that her father left her, which leads her to the icy beauty of Norway...Brought up in a bohemian house in Paris. She was born in 1921. Her father was a sculptor, mother successful opera singer. Could she be Pa Salt’s twin or sister? Is the reference to a sculpture a reference to why Pa Salt had gone to Landowski when he was just a boy of 7/8 as he might have circled in the same group as his own father? Did her father know Laurent Brouilly? This story has many layers and each intricate layer is written with enough compassion and depth. Despite of Ally's POV, the author has given opportunity to her readers to look at the story from their own perspectives. The characters are well-crafted and exceptionally brilliant. Although this is the second book, hence we get a brief idea about all the six sisters as well as some of the supporting cast in the first book.

The pacing. Parts of the book drag on forever (the scenes after Pa Salt's Death could have focused on the aspects and conversations that were unique to Ally instead of retelling absolutely everything we already knew from the first book), while parts I found more interesting (Felix' parents' story, Anna and Grieg) felt rushed even though they were vital parts of the family history. Tom and Felix. I liked that Ally actually found living blood relatives and how she started to build three-dimensional relationships with them.

Games

We first meet Elle in The Storm Sister (book 2), in Leipzig, Germany around the beginning of WW2. She is Karine Roseblum’s best friend, Ally’s great grandmother. We meet Anna Landvik at her parents farm in 1875, before she goes to Oslo to sing Solveig’s voice in Peer Gynt at Christiania Theatre. She is only 18 years old, and sent to stay with Franz Bayer, a smart big city man with a large mustache, in his mid 50’s. He is a pianist and music teacher at the University of Christiania and arrange her role as in the play. I hope you enjoy getting to know the seven sisters in this series, each of them different and remarkable in their own way. Just like in life, you're bound to identify with a particular sister more than the others, but that's the part of the fun. And some sisters might even surprise you . . . When arriving in Leipzig, they are out of money and Jens soon stops coming home for longer periods. Anna is pregnant, giving birth to a stillborn daughter shortly after Jens leave Leipzig to go with his new lover, Baroness von Gottfried, to Paris. In the meantime, Grieg discovers Anna and they develop a relationship “on the side”. 7 years later, Anna is pregnant again with Grieg’s child. Grieg demand Jens to return to take care of Anna and the baby and raise it as his own in Norway. By then, Jens was located in the “bohemian circle” in Montparnasse. Their son (or actually Anna and Grieg’s) is named Horst.
