I really enjoyed reading this book, I could not put it down and stayed up far too late to finish it. knowing that beth, someone who i look up to is currently going through the same thing as me, made me feel so much less alone.

During the retelling of each game, I watched the highlights on YouTube, watching it with fresh eyes, now knowing what was said in the changing rooms, in the tunnel, on the pitch, shouted between players after a goal. It’s a brave move to tell your own story in your own words, and to be so human and genuine in doing so.I felt like I was having a conversation with Beth and she was just telling me her story sitting next to me.

I also appreciate the effort Beth puts towards women’s football, and I love that her passion is so obvious and strong. I re-watched and re-watched Russo’s back heel goal and then watched the final quite literally on the edge of my seat or on the floor closer to the TV because I couldn’t sit still with the excitement and then I couldn’t stop dancing around after the win. First Sentence chapter 6: „I probably should have realised that I was gay a little bit sooner than I did.It sounds like such a minor thing, but we put so much pressure on ourselves as players that we often forget this. You only have to look on social media to see the nonsense these young women have to put up with just because they want to play football. Being able to read the player’s perspective of one the biggest turning points of my life just made me love everything that happened this summer more.
